The Comfort Zone Dilemma: Do I stay or do I go?
We all spend most of our time in our comfort zones. It’s so comfortable we don’t even know we are in it sometimes. Until we notice something missing. We want something bigger, better, and more awesome.
You can search your comfort zone from top to bottom. You can send out a search team. But I bet you anything you’re not going to find it. Because if it were there, it wouldn’t be missing. Which means…
[Cue: scary music:] Duhn duhn duhn…..
It’s OUTSIDE your comfort zone.
Here’s the dilemma most people face. What they want is outside their comfort zone. What they want is never going to enter the comfort zone, so they need to leave their comfort zone to get it.
In essence, it’s outside and never going to come in, and you’re inside and you don’t want to go out.
And here is the kicker, it’s very likely you will never be forced to leave your comfort zone. You can often be a loyal resident of your comfort zone forever, and no one will bother you.
Most people will say, “Well, I don’t need or want it that bad.” And they let it go to stay in their comfort zone.
If you want anything not in your comfort zone, you’re going to have to go outside and get it.
What’s interesting is that people who end up outside their comfort zone often find themselves doing and experiencing things they never thought were possible. And it doesn’t matter if they were pushed or walked out voluntarily.
Yes, there are people who don’t thrive. But’s very likely that they are spending their efforts trying to get back into their comfort zone that is no longer there.
The fact remains, if you refuse to leave your comfort zone, you are limited to the existing resources and you are opening yourself up to being pushed when you are unprepared and not ready.
So do yourself a favor and take the time to take a few steps outside your comfort zone. Or at least walk the perimeter.
Remember: Anything you want that you don’t already have is somewhere outside you comfort zone. The question is: How much do you want it?
