Does Your Career Suck?
I am in the process or developing a weekly support group for people that are experiencing or even contemplating a career change. I believe this will be an empowering resource for professionals who are still trying to figure out what they want to do when they grow up. The mission of this group is to help people overcome fears and obstacles, provide support and nonjudgment, and create action plans and accountability.
Clearing Fears and Obstacles
I have watched people toil and struggle with jobs that drain their energy and offer no opportunity to grow. They don’t know what they want to do next or they are ready leave, but can bring themselves to give notice. All sorts of fears start popping up. We will face each of these hurdles together with honesty and compassion.
What if I don’t make the same money?
What if I pick the wrong thing? What would I even do if I could start over?
Receiving Support and Nonjudgment
People often go to their families and friends for career advice or just to vent and they get “should” on. “You should be a teacher. You love to inspire others!” “You should start a business. You’re so good with money.” “You should get a regular job. That’s the responsible thing to do.” We will lend an empathetic ear to people who need to vent frustration and offer curiosity and excitement for those exploring all their options.
Creating Action Plans and Accountability
All this talking and discussing will do nothing for those who won’t take action. Many people work through all their fears, concerns and block, but never create a realistic plan of attack. It is crucial to set realistic goals and find people to hold you accountable to your commitments. We will set weekly goals and follow-up on everyone’s progress.
Whether you are stuck in a job that is getting you down or you have already taken a leap and are starting your next career adventure, this group will help you figure out what you want, what you need to do to get there, and support you on your way.
